Pancreatic Cancer Awareness

November is pancreatic cancer awareness month. Pancreatic cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and in 2021 alone, it is expected that over 60,000 Americans will be diagnosed.

The pancreas is an organ that releases digestive juices to help breakdown food products and release hormones which regulate blood-sugar.

The risks of the disease include increasing age, obesity, smoking, family history and diabetes. Symptoms of pancreatic cancer include jaundice, or yellowish eyes and skin, indigestion, stomach pain, unexplained weight loss and changes in stool.

To help reduce your risk for pancreatic cancer limit your intake of alcohol, maintain a healthy weight and do not smoke.
